Week Three: Wien and Budapest

Week three marks the halfway point of my study abroad!

This week our German course transitioned from the theme of "Kaffeehaus" to "Natur in der Stadt." So on our trip to Wien (Vienna)  that Thursday, we first visited Café Landtmann and ordered some delicious coffee and cake. I highly recommend the Schokoccino, which is a mixed drink with cappuccino,  ice cream, and caramel sauce. Ganz lecker!

Roman architecture is everywhere in Vienna. In the middle of the city are ruins dating back from when Vienna was part of the Roman Empire. Athena stands in front of the parliament building, where we walked after Café Landtmann. We then proceeded to Leopold Museum and Naturhistorisches Museum.

After a night enjoying what Vienna has to offer after hours, four of us took a bus to the amazing city of Budapest! While very few people spoke English (and even fewer spoke German), we were still able to find our way to the hostel and begin a night of good food, better beer, and the best company.

The next day we visited a flea market, buying lots of Hungarian paprika, the Citedella, where we saw panoramic views of both Buda and Pest, the Budapest parliament building (above), which in itself is massive and humbling, St. Stephen's Basilica (right), a breath-taking Roman Catholic basilica, and the "Budapest Eye," (below) one of my favorite moments in Budapest.

While Saturday was fun, it was also exhausting. Sunday was therefore spent lounging in Városliget, Budapest's largest city park. This park is also home to some of the coolest Medieval castles and palaces in Budapest. We ended our stay in Budapest here, taking a three-hour bus then three-hour train ride back to Salzburg.

Bis bald, Budapest!
